About Beyond Gravity
Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, Beyond Gravity is not your typical space company. We're a unique blend of agility, speed, and innovation, fusing a start-up mindset with decades of industry expertise and a track record of 100% mission success. Our dynamic team of over 1700 professionals, spread across 13 locations in six countries, is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is technically feasible. We're not just building crucial products for the satellites and launchers industry, we’re helping to improve life on earth.
Your Crew:
By joining the Satellites Division and the Strategic Projects Department, along with our multidisciplinary engineers, you’ll contribute to the development of technologies for future satellite payloads in a multicultural environment. Our collaborative and lean organization encourages creativity and professional development, supported by highly skilled experts.
Your Mission:
Space systems are becoming increasingly complex, and the need for accurate, modular simulation environments is critical for design, validation, and operations. A Digital Twin offers a powerful way to emulate spacecraft behavior, enabling engineers to test algorithms, predict performance, and inject faults without costly hardware campaigns.
The goal of this project is to lay the foundation of a Digital Twin demonstrator for the Multi-Purpose Platform Satellite (MPP) in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This twin will replicate selected subsystems and provide a backbone for simulation services and visualization.
The work will focus on interface-driven architecture, ensuring modularity and reusability across hardware models and algorithms. If time permits, this project will also address failure injections, a key metric for simulator quality, and define observability hooks for real-time monitoring. To achieve this, you will:
- Define system boundaries for the different Subsystems and avoid “does-everything” complexity.
- Define and document simulation capabilities, including physics-based and subsystem-level simulation behavior.
- Specify interfaces (ICDs) for the models: inputs, outputs, states, parameters.
- Create the High-level functional architecture of the different layers.
- Define dependencies and outputs/inputs of the submodules of digital twin.
- Implement core models (hardware emulation and algorithmic control laws).
- Define and interconnect all electrical interfaces between all the subsystems.
- Define power budget dynamic behavior based on satellite mode and operation interconnect.
- Enhance an existing simulation backbone for scheduling, logging, telemetry routing, and command dispatch, built in Rust.
- Integrate visualization tools and assess feasibility with the GUI to allow the user to generate specific amount of data inputs connected with other existing modules of the DT, as well as creating plot rendering based on simulation outputs.
- If time permits, design and execute failure injection scenarios to validate robustness.
- Contribute to delivering a working Digital Twin slice, enabling Beyond Gravity to accelerate engineering workflows and lay the foundation for a scalable simulation ecosystem. As such:
- Take responsibility and ownership to ensure the digital twin code is set up correctly.
- Document requirements, architecture, and test results for future reuse, including a description of the environment, the installation procedure and configuration, as well as a thorough handover documentation.
Your Story:
- Enrolled in Msc. at a technical university or similar in the field of aerospace engineering, system engineering, physics, Electrical Engineering or software engineering
- Discipline expert with modelling and software development skills
- Coding language: being able to program in C/C++ or Rust as a baseline, implement tests and documentations, MatLab and Simulink are a plus
- Space engineering: understand satellite orbital mechanics and systems
- Engineering and scientific curiosity, proactive attitude
- Good independence, team-working abilities and communication skills
- English working proficiency and German is a nice to have
