This role is to ensure that the Beyond Gravity Launchers Operations and Engineering entities get the support needed in the domain of Manufacturing Engineering to fulfill their tasks towards the customer. This support includes all domains of materials, their processes, then structural, mechanical parts and related production means. The ME Lead Engineer’s main mission is to coordinate and pilot the technical committee of senior engineers. They have a role of coach and mentor towards a less experienced workforce. This person shall play an active role in driving the course to technical and operational excellence of the company and ensure ME discipline’s competence. 

 

Your Mission
•    Comes with multi-disciplinary Engineering Know-How. Leads multi-disciplinary engineering tasks, issues and is the second level of technical escalations
•    Harmonize, standardize, and align technical roadmap, competencies, and ways of working within a Global Engineering landscape. The focus is on Manufacturing Engineering aspect, while supporting other disciplines
•    Work through ME Team cross-functionally with materials and process engineers, operations, quality, design engineers and other team members to define manufacturing work instruction specifications, related equipment, tools, secondary materials, and training. Define inspections (e.g. incoming inspection or in-process samples) for materials and manufacturing processes. Focus for M&P Engineering is on Composite, adhesives, surface treatment, and metallurgical processes. For Manufacturing Engineering, the focus is more on general assembly, integration, machining and completion processes implementing the above core processes
•    Assure selection, development, industrialization and optimization of tooling for general assembly, integration, machining and completion processes, as well as manufacturing processes for individual parts, components, and complete assemblies
•    Set the course of product industrialization together with the respective managers/programs/lead engineers
•    Support handling, transportation and launch operations process and GSE definition, design, procurement and turning into operation locally and with the customer at his resp. the launch site(s)
•    Review technical documentation, project related deliverable and other specifications related to his field of work. Adapt to the product- and mission-specific / application-specific requirements (e.g. material characterizations, manufacturing process developments, qualification test plans…)
•    Utilize project management techniques / tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
•    Understand and comply with internal BPM. Challenge and update accordingly the actual process with a focus on the ME roles and responsibilities
•    Ability to create standard work for different processes
•    Work package / Task Manager. Owns technical, budget and schedule responsibility as assigned by projects
•    Participate in Non-Conformance Review Boards according to the NC process. Actively propose technical solutions in his field of activity. Secure measures for root cause analyses, corrective and preventive measures. Implement Lessons Learn. Lead RCA and ensure outcome and learning are spread globally
•    Represent the Operations as well as the Engineering department during negotiations and reviews with customers and suppliers or subcontractors
•    Co-work in the bidding team for proposal, quotations, concept work and developments, interdisciplinary collaboration in make-or-buy decisions (create schedule and cost estimates as well as technical descriptions
•    Build-up and maintain relevant contact with external stakeholders
•    Provides information on new products, processes, and technologies to the engineering directorates.
•    Represents the company at key industrial events (e.g. fairs, keynotes at conferences…)
•    Identify emerging trends and cutting-edge technologies before they become widely recognized, and seamlessly incorporate them into our product roadmap and overall structure
•    Propose new products/processes and define / update / structure the company's Products/Processes portfolio
•    Support setting the technical course of the company
•    Responsible for Training. Leads workshops and fosters the innovation and continuous improvement culture in BG
•    Support the hiring process for new employees. Onboarding of peer. Aid in the ramping up of engineers. Identify, manage and maintain the ME Key Competence within the department
 

Your Story
•    Master’s degree in Material Science, Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
•    Minimum 10 years’ technical experience in the field
•    Profound application knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes in the following fields:
      o    Composites, in particular carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), and related tooling and infrastructure
      o    Metals and their surface treatment processes
      o    Adhesives, paints and other non-metallic materials and their processes
      o    Machining, integration and assembly processes and related equipment for all but not limited to listed materials
•    Leadership skills combined with excellent communication skills
•    Industrialization experience, Lean methods knowledge set and application track record
•    Space, Aerospace, or Defense Product experience, preferred
•    Knowledge of the space industry and market, preferred
•    Management experience, additional leadership experience, preferred
•    Project Management Acumen, preferred
•    Solution driven, willing to make a difference, strong entrepreneurial thinking, and customer-orientation
•    Co-operative performer who puts success of team first
•    Interested in the Space Industry developments, both regarding new technology as well as business models
•    Excellent organizational and co-ordination skills
•    High commitment and initiative; systematic, diligent, and independent way of working
