Your Mission

The Operational Engineering Manager is a people-focused engineering leadership role, leading and developing an international team of around 30 Design and Analysis engineers at the heart of Beyond Gravity’s launcher activities in Switzerland. As part of a 60+ Engineering organization, the team contributes to the development of launcher structures and critical separation systems, from early concepts through detailed engineering, qualification and industrialization support. Reporting to the Senior Manager Development Engineering, the Operational Engineering Manager is accountable for people leadership, talent development, team health, capability growth and disciplined engineering execution. The role creates the structure, routines and clarity needed for engineers to perform, while working closely with Lead Engineers, who retain technical ownership.

 

Lead the assigned Engineering disciplines

· Lead, coach and develop the assigned Design and Analysis engineering team members.

· Build a high-performing engineering culture focused on customer needs, continuous improvement and disciplined execution.

· Maintain clear ownership boundaries with Technical Lead Engineers, who retain technical authority for discipline-specific decisions.

· Lead according to Beyond Gravity values, leadership principles and Code of Conduct.

 

Develop people capabilities and engineering capacity

· Conduct regular people-management routines, including one-to-ones, goal setting and review, development discussions, timesheet and absence follow-up, and first-level performance follow-up.

· Plan and develop team capabilities through succession planning, knowledge management, onboarding, mentoring, training and skill-matrix maintenance in close partnership with Technical Lead Engineers.

· Support Technical Career Path deployment and the implementation of discipline roadmaps.

· Identify capability gaps, resource constraints and competence-development needs that may impact engineering delivery or industrialization support.

· Support the hiring process for assigned teams by leading first-round recruiting activities, assessing team fit and preparing recommendations for final hiring decisions.

 

 Drive engineering operational excellence

· Improve engineering execution with focus on quality, delivery reliability, efficiency and disciplined follow-up.

· Implement and improve standardized ways of working, tools, methods, templates and routines to increase engineering efficiency, quality and recurring execution reliability.

· Support focus topics and unforeseen operational tasks such as claim management, non-conformances, root-cause analysis and recovery actions. Ensure lessons learned are translated into concrete corrective and preventive actions.

· Own engineering process adherence and improvement, ensuring activities comply with company standards, customer requirements, Quality Management System requirements, guidelines and best practices.

 

Your Story

Must’s :

· Education in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or equivalent, minimum M.Sc. level

· Proven experience leading, coaching and developing engineering teams in a complex product-development or industrial environment.

· Strong understanding of engineering development activities for space, aerospace or similarly complex technical products, including Quality Management System requirements and technical work-package execution.

· Minimum 5 years of technical experience in Design and/or Analysis engineering.

· Strong people-leadership skills, with proven ability to build trust, give clear feedback, resolve conflicts and create accountability.

· Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to influence across Operations, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Program Management

· Demonstrated capability in process improvement, competence development, workforce planning and people-development routines.

· Experience in a highly regulated industry such as aerospace, space, defense, medical technology or equivalent.

 

Nice to have’s:

· Knowledge of non-conformance management, root-cause analysis and lessons-learned deployment.

· Experience working in an international and multi-site engineering environment.

· Knowledge of aerospace or space products, customer requirements and production environments

· German is a plus

· People-oriented engineering leader who builds trust, develops talent, gives clear feedback and creates disciplined

· follow-up without micromanagement.

· Resilient and structured leader who maintains focus, prioritizes effectively and helps teams deliver through complexity.

· Collaborative leader who puts team success first, shares knowledge and communicates openly across functions.

· Interested in the Space Industry developments, both regarding new technology as well as business models.
